Saturday, Feb. 2

11 a.m.: Sardis United Methodist Church, 976 Sardis Road in Union, sells chicken stew in the Family Life Building. Proceeds will be used for missions.

6 p.m.: Putnam Baptist Church, 3692 Buffalo-West Springs Highway (S.C. 215), hosts a concert by Grammy nominated gospel group Triumphant. Admission is free but a love offering will be collected.

Sunday, Feb. 3

10 a.m.: Grace United Methodist Church invites all children ages 5 through the fifth grade to come and join Grace UMC (on any/all) Sundays Feb. 3 through March 24 for an eight-week multimedia Easter “Treasure Quest” series at 10 a.m. in the Education Building. 11:15 a.m.: Bethesda Baptist Church celebrates its 123rd church anniversary. The afternoon service begins at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Bridges of Concord Baptist Church in Gaffney the guest.

Wednesday, Feb. 6

5:30 p.m.: The Laura Farr Sunday School Class of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church holds a Poor Man’s Supper. The menu includes vegetable and potato soup sandwiches, cornbread and tea. Desserts are extra. Elaine Galston will be guest singer starting at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to Jacob’s Well (the old Hope Hospital in Lockhart). Takeouts call 427-5319. Donations accepted and appreciated.

Sunday, Feb. 10

Noon until: Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Road in Union, serves Sunday dinner consisting of fried chicken, roast beef, steak and gravy, creamed potatoes, rice and gravy, macaroni pie, green beans, Lima beans, slaw, rolls, tea, and dessert. The cost is $8 per person. Call 427-1622 for takeouts which will be ready at 11:45 a.m.

2 p.m.: Antioch AME Church hosts a Matters of the Heart program featuring Sister Patricia Davis, Sister Melinda Wickes, Sister Penny Bellensen and Sister Angela Scott.

Tuesday, Feb. 12

7 p.m.: Philippi Baptist Church, 327 Philippi Church Road in Union, holds its 2013 Sportsman’s Supper Family Night. Michael Roth is the guest speaker. Tickets are $10, which includes dinner. Call (864) 398-6188 for tickets or more information.

Sunday, Feb. 17

2:30 p.m.: James Chapel Baptist Church, 527 Pinckney St. in Carlisle, celebrates the eighth anniversary of its pastor. The guest speaker is D.S. President of St. Matthews First Baptist Church. The public is invited.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

11 a.m.-2 p.m.: Sardis United Methodist Church, 976 Sardis Road in Union, holds a Mission Soup and Sandwich Lunch. The menu will include vegetable beef soup, cornbread, chicken salad or pimento cheese sandwich, dessert and tea for $7 per plate. The church is also selling chicken salad and pimento cheese for $6 per pint and vegetable soup for $6 per quart. Call (864) 427-9676 for carryouts of 10 or more. All sales go to the missions of the church.

Revivals/Other events

Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 392 Pea Ridge Hwy. in Jonesville, hosts a Consignment Sale from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 8 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 9. Anyone can enter items in the sale. Vendor booths will be set up for products and the women of the church will sell hot dogs and snacks. All proceeds are to help buy new playground equipment. Ongoing Events

A Moms in Prayer group meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays in the Family Ministry Center of Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway. All interested persons are invited to participate.

The Missionary Auxiliary of the Pacolet River Baptist Association has an Emergency Food Pantry in the rear (annex) of the town hall in Jonesville. The pantry is open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and other times by calling the numbers posted on the sign at the entrance of the annex. Bring identification and proof residence.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
