UNION COUNTY — Three applicants are seeking to fill a vacant seat on the Union District Hospital Board.

Dr. Stan James, Rev. Louis Miller Jr., and Shirley B. Gist are seeking appointment by Union County Council to the board seat which has been vacant since the Dec. 26 death of board member I.G. Vanderford.

The three were each interviewed individually by council during a special meeting Tuesday evening in the Grand Jury Room of the Union County Courthouse.

After completing the interviews, council went into executive session to discuss the matter further.

Council was still in executive session at the time this edition of The Union Daily Times was to go to print. Look for more information regarding the meeting in upcoming editions and on www.uniondailytimes.com.

Union County is sponsoring the Meansville Riley Water Company's application for a $350,000 grant through the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. The grant would enable the company to install approximately 31,000 linear feet of new water main on eight different roadways and improve water quality. If requested to do so, should the county sponsor more such grant applications by other local water companies?
