JONESVILLE — Even though the day of distribution was in the middle of the week instead of the weekend, the more than 1,200 people who received food, clothing and pet care items at The Potters Storehouse last week did not complain according to the church’s pastor.
“We had a good full day,” Pastor Don Moore said. “People were kind of steady coming in all day. I didn’t have anybody complaining about the switch from Saturday to Wednesday.”
The church had previously distributed food to the needy the second and fourth Saturday of every month, but switched to Wednesdays beginning last week. The change was made to give the volunteers who prepare the boxes of food and do other services to be able to spend Saturdays with their families and to make the distributions more convenient for them, the church, its staff, and its food suppliers.
Moore said more than 400 families were served during the distribution.
“We had 453 families or a total of 1,258 people that we distributed food to,” Moore said. “That doesn’t count the people we will deliver to on Friday. We have about a hundred boxes we will deliver then.”
Moore said the families and individuals served and those who to be served Friday received boxes containing a mixture of foods including rice, cereal, canned goods, meats, barbecue sauce, and spices. In addition to the food, Moore said the church was also able to distribute clothing and pet goods.
“We also had a lot of clothes that were donated by a local church,” Moore said. “People were really glad to get them because there was a lot of coats, shoes, and winter clothes in there.”
“We also had dog food, cat food, and cat litter courtesy of Dollar General he said. “People really seemed to appreciate that pet food.”
Moore said he was pleased with last Wednesday’s distribution.
“It was a real good day,” Moore said. “It was the kind of day we yearn for. Everything went well.”
The next food distribution at The Potters Storehouse will be Feb. 13.
