UNION — Mr. Rodney Lawson, 56, husband of Melanie Lawson, 403 Springdale Drive, Union, S.C., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012.

Born Nov. 11, 1955, a son of the late Harold E. and Elizabeth Johnson Lawson. Rodney had been employed with Roper Chevrolet where he made friends across the State. In 2001, He began work at Denton Gas. He also served as a Reserve Police officer for Union County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Union. He volunteered for The Monarch Fire Department, was a Shriner, and a Member of The Union Masonic Lodge #175. Rodney was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Buffalo S.C.

Survivors in addition to his wife are one daughter, Suzy Lawson Garner and husband Michael of Jonesville; a stepson Rockey Lancaster and wife Kelly of Buffalo; two brothers, Stanley Lawson and wife Joan of Buffalo, Jeff Lawson and wife Teresa of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Hayden and Houston Garner, Rylan and Addison Lancaster; an uncle, Jerry D. Lawson and wife Patsy of Jonesville; an aunt, Helen Lawson of Simpsonville; and two special family pets, Mia and Be Be.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Johnnie Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Clarence Sanders, Paul McCutcheon, C.W. Garner, Tommy Hart, Rick Pendleton, Mike Gregory, Steve Morris, Kenny Morris, and Howard Gibson.

Serving as the honorary escort are Mike Callahan, Perry Haney, Harry Helms, Tommy Cudd, Gene Childers, Jerry Shoals, Neal McKeown, David McCarley, David “Tubo” Owens, Bill and Sara Hopkins, Wayne Baber, Denton Gas Employees, Monarch Fire Department, and the Union County Sheriff’s Department and City Police Department.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building fund, 308 Linersville Rd. Buffalo SC 29321.

The family is at the Home, 403 Springdale Drive, Union, S.C. 29379.
