SPARTANBURG — The Sims girls basketball team found some answers in the second half of Monday night’s Peachtree Conference game at Dawkins but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 20 point halftime deficit. The Tigers struggled to score in the opening minutes and were down 13-2 at the end of the first period. Dawkins padded its lead in the second and carried a 29-9 lead into intermission.

“We just couldn’t score under the basket in the first half,” explained Sims coach Kenny Harris. “We probably gave away 20 points on turnovers and missed shots in the paint. The team settled down in the second half and made those shots but we couldn’t get it going in the first half.”

The Tigers traded buckets with Dawkins throughout the second half but the rocky start came back to haunt them and the result was a 46-25 loss.

A bright spot for Harris and the Lady Tigers was the production of post players Booker and Byrd who held two of the leading scorers in the conference to under their averages.

“Those two did a great job blocking out, rebounding and playing tough defense the entire game,” said Harris. “April and Me’Aria also played tough defense for us and Ashley Vinson had a great game helping us break the press. We improved a good bit tonight as a team and I’m very proud of the effort they all gave.”

The Tigers stand at 1-10 overall, 0-8 in the conference and host Woodruff for their final home contest on Thursday at 5 p.m.
