JONESVILLE — It will soon be Thanksgiving and The Potters Storehouse is asking for donations to help it provide needy families with the main course of any Thanksgiving dinner: turkey.
The church, which is located on S.C. 18 in the Jonesville area, will hold one of its two November food distributions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The second food distribution, which will be the church’s Thanksgiving distribution, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, and Pastor Don Moore says the church needs more turkeys to be able to provide each of the families it serves with a turkey for Thanksgiving.
“We already have some turkeys, but we need at least another 250 to 300 to give out to the families on the the twentieth,” Moore said Thursday. “We are hoping to accumulate as many turkeys as we can, and are asking people to either make a donation directly to the church, or to donate a gift card at a local store in the name of The Potters Storehouse. If they want to make a donation but cannot bring it, they can contact me and I can arrange to pick it up.”
The Potters Storehouse distributes food to an average of more than 4,000 families a month. The food and other items it distributes are acquired by the church through donations from individuals, clubs, community groups and other churches.
In addition to turkeys, the church needs donations to help it pay the power bill for the freezers it uses in its food ministry. Moore said that, at $650, this month’s power bill is slightly lower than in previous months, but the church still needs the public’s help to keep the power on.
