UNION — Union County wide receiver Kalay Jones has caught the eye of some Division I programs early in his senior season and last week, once again, he dazzled on the football field, despite the 63-37 road loss to Woodruff.

Jones finished the night with six catches for 152 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of two point conversions.

“Kalay has been solid all year,” said Union County Head Coach Steve Taneyhill. “Both his touchdowns on Friday came early when we were still in the game.”

Jones’ first touchdown reception was a 37-yarder and the second was an impressive 80-yard catch and go.

On the opposite side of the ball, Devonte Wood put in his fair share of work for Union County.

The senior defensive end accounted for seven stops with two tackles for loss, a sack and also forced a Woodruff fumble.

“Devonte’s been playing well all season,” said Taneyhill. “He plays with a lot of heart.”

Jones and Wood play their respective roles with intensity and desire. Union County will need peak performances from both players as it delves into region play.

Your Union Daily Times Yellow Jackets of the Week are Kalay Jones and Devonte Wood.
