UNION — Chris Booker not only reeled in six passes from quarterback Keiston Smith on Friday night, he also snagged one off Chapman quarterback Ben Ziegler in the second half, helping Union County to a 28-6 win.

The senior wide receiver played both sides of the ball and was the definition of an impact player. Offensively, Booker tallied 83 yards off six receptions with a touchdown catch and rushed once for 20 yards. On defense, Booker served as a safety and contributed seven tackles with an interception.

“Chris is a competitor so when we talked about using him on defense he was all for it,” said Union County Head Coach Steve Taneyhill. “His speed, instincts and toughness make our defense better. Him and T.J. (Foster) give us two safeties that can cover the pass.”

Booker has helped ignite the Union County defense just in time for its final Region III-AAA match-up versus Chester with the winner receiving a No. 2 playoff seeding and first round home game. He will be called upon to spark the Jackets again on Friday night against a dangerous Cyclones squad.

Your Union Daily Times Yellow Jacket of the Week is Chris Booker.
