Upcoming Church And Community News
The Town Of Whitmire will host a citizens input meeting Wednesday, December 12 at 1 p.m. at The Community Center. All Whitmire residents are encouraged to attend. Representatives from The Central Midlands Agency will be on hand to discuss and answer questions about the grant funding and how the grant funding will be used to better Whitmire area projects.
The regular town council meeting will be Monday, December at 6 p.m. at The Community Center. The Town Employee Christmas Dinner is Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at The Community Center.
A “Night for The Legends” of Whitmire High School will be Friday, December 14 after the varsity girls’ basketball game. Retired coaches, teachers and administrators William”Lefty” Johnson, Kenneth “Ken” Coleman and the late Irby Raines Jr. will be honored as longtime members of the school and the community.
The game time is 6 p.m., immediately after the game the recognition ceremony will begin. Former students, faculty community members are all invited to attend.
First Baptist Church will present its Christmas drama: “Once Upon A Christmas” Sunday, December 23 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
Jaycees News
The Jaycees Christmas Cheer Fund — You still have time to get adopt a family or child for Christmas. The Jaycees Cheer Fund Drive is underway. Visit The Whitmire Jaycees organization page on Facebook or stop by CWilbanks Photography on Main Street for more information. Charlie Wilbanks and her family members are helping the Jaycees this year. The drop off point is Grace Baptist Church on December 21 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The gifts will soon be picked up by the families or a representative.
The Jaycees have a holiday Christmas outing planned for December 12 with a trip to “Holly Wild” in Inman. It will be a first trip for some members, they were told it was a beautiful mix of animals and Christmas lights. The Jaycees have tentatively planned their Christmas dinner for Saturday, December 15.
The Jaycees say “Big Thank You” to The Whitmire Town Crew for the decorations and to all of those who participated in the annual downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday, November 30.
The WCS Concert Band and The WCS Elementary Chorus provided a beautiful musical background, as Ministers Mark Stevens, Emma Ruff and Eddie Bledsoe offered scripture, prayers, and words of holiday inspiration. WCS assistant Principal Martha Suber was the event emcee and she acknowledged Newberry County Councilman-elect Scott Cain and Whitmire Mayor-elect Billy Hollingsworth. Billy gave the flip of the light switch as the gorgeously decorated tree came to light and life.
As we say in Whitmire: “A good time was had by all.”
