Whitmire tennis beats Chester

CHESTER — Whitmire’s girls’ tennis team defeated Chester 6-1 on Tuesday.

In singles play, Alex Cromer defeated Gabriel Glenn 6-2, 7-5; Allyson Greenway defeated Tyresha Houston 6-0, 6-0; Jordan Suber defeated Jocelyn Boulware 6-0, 6-4; D.J. Norton defeated Tiona Thompson 6-4, 6-2; Erica Hall defeated Ashalaya Jackson 6-0, 6-3.

In doubles play, Cromer and Greenway defeated Gabriel Glenn and Tyresha Houston 8-2; Anna Hall and Teresa Patterson lost to Destiny Hughes and Donesha Grier 6-2, 2-6 (10-4).

WCS (6-2) hosts Abbeville today.

UCHS VOLLEYBALL

Chapman defeated Union County’s varsity volleyball team 3-0 on Tuesday.

Chapman won 25-18, 25-17 and 25-18.

“The girls showed a lot of fight, we just couldn’t pull it out,” said coach Yoneko Washington.

Jessica Hall had an ace, six serve points, a block, six digs and four kills; Megan Russell had 11 digs; Meredith Walker had an ace, three points, four blocks, a dig and three kills; Morgan Walker had three points, two digs and five assists; Demisha Norman had two digs; Taylor Hughey had four points and six digs; Iyauna Gist had a dig; Tiffany Vaughan had two points and two digs; Hetti Millwood had an ace, three points, three digs and two kills.

UCHS JV VOLLEYBALL

Chapman defeated Union County’s junior varsity girls’ volleyball team 2-0 on Tuesday.

Chapman won 25-8 and 25-13.

“It is hard to keep the players motivated,” said coach Sherry Jackson. “I see the confidence level going down with each game. We need a win, but have been unable to have all players doing their best at the same time. We make some really good plays, have great serves and spikes, but not enough to pull out the win.”

Andrea Eison had two kills and three digs; Kris Clayton had an ace; Makaylah Plemmons had a kill and a dig; McKale Hardy had a dig; Hannah Farr had two assists; Ashley Vaughan had an ace and a kill. Tiffany Austin had a dig.

UCHS volleyball teams host Clinton on Thursday.
