What does Veterans Day mean to me?

Veteran's Day is one day a year on Nov. 11 that people all across this great nation gather to remember the fallen heroes who fought for our freedom. We do this, not only out of tradition, but also out of thankfulness for those great soldiers. For without them, we would not be where we are today.

My father Benjamin Smith Jr., my grandfather Fred Reinke and my cousin Jason Wilburn all served in the Army. My father and grandfather currently reside in Spartanburg, but my cousin recently passed away two years ago while training for his third deployment to Iraq.

With the help of this important holiday, the nation's younger generation will realize the importance of our armed forces. From the Revolutionary War to the Afghani war, we're fighting as I write this, and people have served and died for the citizens at home. I hope you can see it as inspiring as I have.

So in the end, what Veteran's Day means to me is that anyone can be a great veteran. Also, I'm proud to see people protecting our freedom. Someday, we may even be honoring you!
