Plans for a community-wide welcome home celebration this weekend for soldiers returning from Afghanistan have been changed.

The Family Readiness Group, (FRG), formed to support members of Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1/118th Infantry deployed in Afghanistan, had planned a homecoming event at Veterans Park to include the entire community.

FRG president Melissa Nance said that because the soldiers and their families have been apart for more than a year, a picnic is being held Saturday at the park to allow them time together. She asks that the public be respectful and allow the event be held for the returning soliders and their families only.

In a statement, she said her group apologizes for any previous misleading information regarding the event.

She said a community event is being planned for a later date.
