A sign that no one likes to see when they are in a hurry or in an unfamiliar place is “Out of Order.” When we see this it automatically means there is a detour in our journey, and detours always take us out of the way and down unfamiliar roads. This adds unexpected time and stress as we travel. The reasons for the “Out of Order” signs vary but there is one thing we can always be assured of. When we see “Out of Order,” something is always messed up. It is not working right or performing as it was created to. It could be anything from a toilet that won’t flush, to a bridge that has washed away leaving a deadly gap in a highway.

I don’t know if you have noticed or not but life is “Out of Order.” God created mankind in His image. At first everything was perfect. There was no sin, no sickness, no pain, no separation, and no sadness; just perfect peace and a close relationship with God. Then Satan came along and tempted Eve to disobey God and do the one thing God had told them not to do. Adam and Eve trespassed against God’s law and did what He forbade them to do and from that very moment until now, everything has been “out of order.”

Now in 2012 one of the big problems is that we as Americans have grown accustomed to sin. Things that used to never be said are said today. Clothing is worn today that wouldn’t have been allowed in public 60 years ago. Attitudes and lifestyles that are tolerated today wouldn’t have been in generations past. We have seen and heard so much “sin,” we no longer pay it any attention to it. Satan has really gotten things “out of order.”

Another problem is we don’t hear much preaching concerning sin. What we do hear is an easy message that says, “You’re a good person. You can change your life for the better.” Or we may hear the challenging message, “Turn over a new leaf and start anew, trying to do better each day.” The major problem here is we can’t make a change for the better or straighten up our own lives. Everyone has to surrender to God and allow God to make the change. Then God will lead us in the paths of righteousness.

So, easy beliefs and a desensitized church have gotten us to where we are today. Is it too late? Will America at least get back to a standard of conduct and morals? The Bible says that in the last days it is going to get worse. Well I’m glad the Lord is coming again and He is going to set things back in order. Until that day comes, we as preachers and born-again, blood-bought Christians need to call it true. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Not compromising the truth of God’s word. The word is truth and the truth still sets people free. So next time in your journey of life where you face the “Out of Order” sign, remember although it is not perfect like God created, He still gives us “a light unto our feet and a lamp unto our path.” One day soon everything is going to be fixed and no more detours will come along life’s way.
