UNION — The Union Music Club met February 12 in the Union County Museum meeting room with Kathleen Read, and Johnny and Caroline Turner hosting the meeting.

President Kathy Stepp welcomed the members to the meeting. The members recited the Invocation, Collect, and sang the Federation Hymn with Tommy Bishop at the piano.

The Song of the Month, “Hail, Columbia!” was composed in 1987 for the inauguration of George Washington. It was performed for nearly every formal occasion over which Abraham Lincoln presided. It is used as the official entrance march for the Vice President of the United States, just as “Hail to the Chief” is the official entrance song for the President.

New officers were elected for the coming year: President — Sally Summer, Vice President — Tommy Bishop, Recording Secretary — Amy Bruce, Corresponding Secretary — Linda Kelly, and Treasurer — Sanders Read.

Sally Summer sang a program of romantic love songs to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a song for the love of our country, and songs for the love of God accompanied by Mr. Bishop. Songs included in the program were “The Merry Widow Waltz,” Almost Like Being in Love,” “Can’t Help Loving that Man of Mine,” “‘Till There Was You,” “This Is My Country,” “I’d Rather Have Jesus,” and “I Asked the Lord.”

The meeting adjourned after the singing of “The Gift of Song” by Lana M. Bailey.
