Two women learned the hard way the Union County Magistrate's Office is no place for a fistfight.

Latoya Latrice Johnson, 28, 453 Joe Walker Road, Union, and Eboni Sheneet Jeter, 105 Kissy Creek Circle, Union, are charged by the Union County Sheriff's Office with disorderly conduct.

Deputies were dispatched to the magistrate's office in the basement of the Union County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon in response to a report of a fight. Upon arrival, Deputy Kevin Smith spoke with Judge Jimmy Crocker who told him he'd just dismissed Johnson and Jeter after a hearing. Crocker said when he walked out of the courtroom he found Johnson and Jeter engaged in a fistfight.

Johnson and Jeter both said the other had thrown the first punch and the fight stemmed from an ongoing situation between them. Their claims and explanations didn't prevent both of them from being arrested and taken to the Union County Jail where they remained until being released on bond later in the day.

More Fighting

In more disorderly conduct news, two teenagers got a lesson in not fighting at school Tuesday afternoon.

The boys, both 15, were taken into custody by Union Public Safety officers after getting into a fight at Union County High School. A teacher who witnessed the incident told officers the fight began with a verbal exchange between the boys and then went physical. The two were transported to the public safety department, charged with disorderly conduct, and released to their parents.

Investigations

The sheriff's office is investigating a report of harassment over the telephone.

The victim told deputies there's been a series of harassing phone calls made to her cellphone by a caller whose number is restricted and refuses to identify himself. She said it began a few weeks ago with the caller breathing and not saying anything followed by immediate hangups. At 6:05 a.m. Wednesday, she said the caller addressed her by name, told her to go back to sleep and that he would be seeing her. She described the voice as possiblly being that of a middle-aged white man.

The sheriff's office received a report of the vandalism of a mailbox at 253 Vernon Foster Road, Union. The victim told deputies sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday someone knocked her mailbox off. The mailbox is valued at $50.

Clifford Caff Cooper, 37, 605 Monarch Highway, Union, charged by the sheriff's office with public intoxication, open container and seatbelt violation.

Erica Dawn Robinson, 22, 605 Monarch Highway, Union, charged by the sheriff's office with public drunk and seatbelt violation.
