“We are expecting to have a busy day with over 700 registered families,” said Pastor Don Moore.
Vouchers to receive food will be issued to those preregistered beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday with distribution starting at 10:30 a.m. With weather concerns an issue, people who arrive to receive food also will be able to wait inside if needed.
“The sanctuary will be open at 9:30 a.m. so folks won’t have to all wait outside,” Moore said.
A new system will be in place for this latest event.
Moore said each person registered to receive food during the distribution day will be given a ticket and be called by number to sign their voucher.
Anyone registered for the previous distribution days does not need to do so again. Those in need of food assistance who have not yet registered still can do so today (Wednesday, Jan. 13), Thursday, Jan. 14, and Friday, Jan. 15, from 2-5 p.m. at the church. Registrations also can be made by calling (864) 674-0880 or Moore at (864) 680-3465.
The pastor and church are looking for volunteers to help with registration and the distribution event, as well. Moore would like to have volunteers help fill boxes 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 3-7 p.m. Friday.
“Any help will be appreciated,” he said. “We also need help with registration Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
Volunteers for Saturday are asked to report at 9 a.m. to the church’s fellowship building.
Moore has faith this event will be as successful as the others and said food will be ready for those families registered.
“We will have well-filled boxes for everyone,” he said.
And any donations are always welcomed. The church still is seeking freezers to store items.
“I had to turn down 500 pounds of frozen food because we had no way to keep it,” Moore said.
Anyone interested in donating to The Potters House food bank is encouraged to do so. Contributions can be dropped off anytime during registration or distribution days.
The Potters House has served around 1,000 people through its food bank and distribution days — or Truck Load of Food events — since it began this food assistance mission in October.
