A traffic stop on a vehicle stopped too long at a traffic light resulted in the arrest of three people Friday.

Tyrone DeAngelo Fleming, 24, 400 S. Mountain St., Union, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Milford Carlton Jeter, 37, 208 May St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with illegal stopping, no S.C. driver’s license and unsafe tires.

Annette Carlotta Taylor, 43, 20 May St., Union, is charged by the department with giving false information to police and allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Union County Sheriff David Taylor said the arrests grew out of a traffic stop by a deputy early that morning.

Taylor said that at 1:27 a.m., the deputy observed a dark colored SUV sitting stationary at a green traffic light at the intersection of Main and Mountain streets. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on South Pinckney Street near the Union County Communications Department, the vehicle continued down the street and turned left on to South Mountain Street.

The driver then stopped the vehicle, jumped out and fled on foot.

Taylor said the deputy did not give chase, but immediately called in the K-9 unit to track down the driver because there were other people in the SUV.

The passengers in the SUV were searched for weapons, handcuffed and placed in the patrol car until another deputy arrived on the scene.

Taylor said that when he arrived, the second deputy noticed an open container on the passenger’s side of the front seat. The vehicle was then searched but no drugs were found.

By this time the K-9 Unit had been deployed and tracked down the driver, later identified as Jeter, who was taken into custody.

While the K-9 team was deployed, a woman, later identified as Annette Taylor, came to the scene and identified herself as Mrs. Jeter. She told officers that her husband was not driving the SUV because he was at work in Spartanburg. She then left the scene

After being arrested, however, Jeter admitted to being the driver of the SUV. He said he’d ran because he didn’t have a driver’s license.

Taylor said that it was after this that deputies learned the woman who identified herself as Mrs. Jeter was actually Annette Taylor. He said deputies arrested her that afternoon.

Fleming was charged after deputies found a quantity of the crack cocaine in the seat of the patrol car where he’d been placed by the deputies. Taylor said the crack cocaine weighed approximately eight grams. He said because of the amount involved, Fleming was charged with possession with intent to distribute.
