A 15-year-old Union County High School student’s refusal to surrender his cell phone and his expressing a desire to hit a school official won him a trip to the Union Public Safety Department and a charge of disorderly conduct.

The incident occurred shortly before noon Monday when a public safety officer was summoned to the assistant principal’s office. When he arrived, the officer was told the student had become disorderly over surrendering his cell phone in accordance with school policy. Despite the presence of the officer, the student continued to refuse to surrender his phone and said he should have hit the assistant principal in the face.

The teen was taken into custody and transported to the public safety department where he was charged and later released to his mother.
