The Timken Sports Complex was invaded by girls softball players last weekend.

The 2012 Battle of the Foothills fastpitch travel ball tournament featured 24 teams, seven of which included Union County athletes.

Travel ball has become a necessary tool for softball players to develop their skills and while it’s competitive, the primary emphasis is to maximize the potential of each player.

Games from each of the three divisions — 10u, 12u and 14u — began at 9 a.m. Saturday morning and teams competed until 9 p.m. Saturday night.

The tournament wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with champions being crowned in each division.
