UNION – The Sims Middle School seventh-grade football team dominated the field on both sides of the ball Wednesday, defeating the Rainbow Lake Gators of Chesnee by a score of 40-8. The win brings the SMS Tigers to 6-0 on the season and a win in the final game against Woodruff would mean a perfect season.

On offense, Bryan Good had four of his touchdown passes to his offensive line, led by center Logan Vinson. Good threw five passes for scores to four different receivers: John Addison would catch two touchdowns, Terrance Briggs caught a 15-yard touchdown, Dudley Thompson caught a 35-yard bomb for a touchdown, and Caleb Vanderford caught a two-point conversion.

The running game was not far behind the passing game as Ladarius Jeter ran a two-point conversion in and Jerome Henry ran a 5-yard touchdown during the game.

Vanderford had play of the game when he caught a 20-yard pass from Good that was underthrown. Vanderford had to fight off the defender to catch the ball. The catch led to a touchdown a play later.

The Tiger offense was also helped out by Ty Savage when he recovered an onside kick, giving the ball back to the Sims offense after it had just scored a touchdown.

The Tiger defense played exceptionally well, allowing only 50 yards of offense to the Rainbow Lake Gators, while giving up just one touchdown. The defense is just allowing six points a game but is scoring three points a game.

This game was the third game in a row that the defense has scored a touchdown. Terrance Briggs caught a one-handed interception and ran it back for a touchdown. Helping Briggs out on defense was T.J. Coker who had one sack and recovered a fumble caused by Princeton Hunter. The D-line was once again in the backfield all night while the linebackers and defensive backs shut down the Gators’ passing game.
