UNION — The Union County Chamber of Commerce has a new president.

Torance Inman, chamber executive director, announced this week that Pamela Roberts has been elected chamber president and will serve out the unexpired term of her predecessor, Frank Hart, who resigned after being elected to Union County Council.

“Once he (Hart) was elected to county council he wanted to make sure there was no conflict of interest from his serving on council because the chamber receives some funding from the county,” Inman said. “As a result he resigned from the chamber board of directors and the board elected Pam Roberts of Roberts Accounting as president to serve out Mr. Hart’s unexpired term.”

Hart was elected to the District 2 Union County Council seat in November. His term on council will begin Jan. 2.

Inman said that Hart, owner of the Allstate Frank Hart Insurance Agency, had served three years on the board at the time of his resignation and was elected president in 2012.

Hart said he enjoyed his service on the board and looks forward to supporting the chamber’s effort as a member of county council.

“I enjoyed my time working with the board of directors, Torance and Renee to move the chamber forward,” Hart said. “In my new role on county council I want to continue to support the efforts of the chamber.”

Roberts said Wednesday that while she regrets Hart’s resignation she is looking forward to serving as president and working on behalf of the chamber and the community.

“I’m sorry that Frank’s leaving because he’s been such an asset to the board as well as the chamber,” Roberts said. “We wish him well in his upcoming role as a member of county council.

“I’m excited to take this position,” she said. “I look forward to serving the chamber members and the non-chamber members. We will work toward bringing the community together through new projects that will have a positive impact on our community. We will be announcing these new projects in March at our annual awards banquet.”

Located at 408 N. Duncan Bypass, Suite 7, Union, Roberts Accounting has been a member of the chamber since 2011. The company offers a wide array of services including accounting, payroll, personal and business income taxes, special tax services for truck drivers, non-profit organizations, and identity theft protection services. It employs a staff of three.

Roberts will serve out the remaining months of Hart’s term which expires in March. At that time the board will elect a new slate of officers.

The chamber’s board of directors is composed of 12 directors and one past president. The current membership of the board includes Roberts, Linda Mitchell (vice president), Eric Childers (secretary), Jackie Petty (treasurer), Arthur Barrett, Tony Good, Ray Treadway, Mike Stevens, Amy Belue, Kenny O’Shields and Paul Winters. Inman said that while Roberts is serving as president, Hart’s seat on the board is vacant as is the past president’s seat. He said they will remain vacant until the board holds its elections March.

Inman said the terms of Barrett, Petty and Stevens expire in March as will the terms of the officers.

The new board members and officers will be announced at the chamber’s annual awards banquet during which it Industry, Small Business, Service Group and Volunter of the Year will also be announced.
