UNION — The 2012 Father/Child Tennis Tournament held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Union County High School was a success despite an unrelenting rain shower.
Brad Tate, tournament director and tennis instructor, said he was impressed by the number of participants — 15 teams (30 individuals) — and by the determination of each athlete.
“Most of them competed in the rain — It just never really let up,” laughed Tate. “I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event, though, and we’re looking forward to doing it again next year.”
The 8-year-old division winners included Brian and Jackson Fowler. Runners up were Darell and Luke Parris.
The 10-year-old division winners included Stan Gallman and his granddaughter, Dillon Weaver. Runners up included Sean Murphy and Mackenzie Murphy.
The 12-year-old division winners included Chris and Alexis Nance. Runners up were the Kamboj’s team of Karan and Bikram.
The teen division winners were Shannon and Collin Gault. The runners up included Surah and Bikram Kamboj.
The sportsmanship award was presented to Jamie Gallman who was awarded a new Graphite racket.
