A Union resident is one of four finalists in an ongoing contest, and she needs help from those in her hometown.
Brittany Pridemore continues to follow her dream, pursuing a career as a professional performer. Greer Idol — an ongoing American Idol-like contest held each week in downtown Greer — is in its fifth week, and Pridemore is one of four finalists.
The contest began with 43 auditioners, and those were narrowed down to 14 who performed weekly beginning on June 15. Each week, contestants performed songs from a different genre, with three contestants eliminated after each of the first two weeks and two contestants eliminated after each of the last two weeks. The eliminations come after votes have been counted — live and online.
Anyone with a valid email address may go to www.greeridol.com and vote after each performance. Voting opens at 9:30 p.m. on Friday night after the show and closes at noon on the next Monday. This is where she hopes her friends and family members from Union will come in.
“I just want my home community to get involved,” she said. “They have always supported my singing.”
“If they can’t come out to see it live, I hope they will still vote online,” she added, mentioning that she is thankful for all the support she has received so far. “I couldn’t have made it this far without help.”
Pridemore said the contest officially began with eight girls and six guys, and it is now down to three guys and her. This Friday’s theme is “movies and show tunes,” and she is still debating about the perfect song choice.
“It will be a surprise,” she laughed.
Greer Idol Teen begins at 6 p.m. and the band Retro Vertigo begins at 7 p.m. Greer Idol begins at 8 p.m., followed by another set from Retro Vertigo.
The theme for Friday, July 20, is “beach music,” and on Friday, July 27, two contestants will face off in the competition’s finale to win the grand prize of $1,500.
In addition to her singing career, Pridemore also works full time at Wallace Thomson Hospital as a registrar and insurance identifier for Dr. Anterpreet Dua and attends Phoenix University online, majoring in health care management. Her first love, however, will always be singing.
For those who would like to see Pridemore perform but cannot attend Greer Idol, she will perform on Your Carolina — on WSPA News Channel 7 — on July 27, and she will perform at Uniquely Union on Sept. 8.
