Voters in three precincts will cast their ballots at new locations.

Keith Vanderford, chairman of the Board of Election and Registration for Union County, announced Tuesday the U.S. Justice Department had approved the relocation of polling locations for the Ward 2, Santuc and Excelsior precincts. Under the Voting Rights Act of 1965 any changes in voting precincts must be approved or precleared by the Justice Department.

The Ward 2 polling station will be moved from Sims Junior High School to the Union County Maintenance Department at 1417 Whitmire Highway.

The Santuc polling station will be moved from the Carlsan School to Salem Baptist Church at 1835 Tinker Creek Road.

The Excelsior polling location will be moved from Excelsior Middle School to the Masonic Lodge at 805 South Duncan Bypass.

Vanderford said the relocation of the Ward 2 and Excelsior polling locations was due to the closing of Sims Junior High and Excelsior Middle schools. The schools were closed at the end of the 2008-09 school year and replaced with the new Sims Middle School which opened earlier this year on the Whitmire Highway.

The Santuc polling location was moved due the closing of the Carlsan School when Headstart relocated to the old Jonesville Elementary School in Jonesville.
