UNION — The Union Daily Times’ horde of hashmark hucksters are back in action for Week 4 of pigskin pickin’ but before we delve into this week’s picks, we’d like to welcome our guests of honor — Sheriff David Taylor, who’d like for you to know ahead of time that he’s playing against a stacked deck, (more on that later) and Clerk of Court Freddie Gault. That’s Freddie with two D’s not two E’s (inside joke).
Last week Steven Addis led the pack, picking 12 of 17 correctly. The panel would like to express our utter shock that Mr. Addis took the early lead.
“Well, surprise, surprise,” Sam Phipps remarked (insert eye-rolling). “You know he looks up percentages and stats for every game and then calculates it all up before he picks, don’t you?”
We’d like to know the name of the app you’re using, Steven.
“Now, Tiffany, you don’t reckon Freddie and David are gonna make us look bad, do you?” asked Doc Lipsey. “I mean, I was planning on taking over this week.”
Well, David says he’s just hoping to beat Freddie and Shrop. “It’s not fair to put me on a panel with Doc and Steven,” David informed me.
That’s OK, Sheriff. They really don’t know that much about football. I asked Steven what “splitting the uprights” meant and he said, “It means I get one, then you get one. I get one, then you get one.”
However, Mr. Addis is currently our leader at 12-5 so let’s show him the proper respect. Meanwhile, Kevin Shropshire starts this week with a sad record of 8-9.
“Somebody tell Shrop that this ain’t turkey hunting.” Freddie laughed. “He told me he thought ‘moving the sticks’ was what a tornado did!”
