Last week I saw 10 deer in Lockhart. Well, Sunday, on my way to Rock Hill, I almost painted my car with one.

I was on 322 and just crossed over 97, so I wasn’t traveling fast since there is a stop sign right there, but there was two cars on my tail, and the deer came out of the woods about six feet in front of me. At 55 mph I would have had it, but I was at about 35, but still put my foot on the brake a little.

Okay hunters, how many have you seen since the season has opened? This was early morning, around 7:30.

I had to go to York Tech, to get my hours in to renew my Cosmo license. They always do this on a Sunday, once a year. They give you a choice of Spartanburg or Rock Hill. I figured that it was the same distance, and since I head out to Spartanburg every week, I might as well take in some different sights. It’s always interesting, and there might be some knowledge you can bring back to your shop. I just don’t understand the beauticians that don’t really want to go.

A Chuck Story

Someone at the Hot Spot told me they liked my stories of Chuck. But I don’t see or talk to him a lot since he’s working all the time. I don’t seem to hear of his messes. So on my way to Rock Hill, I started to think of some craziness of his. This story comes to mind: So help me it’s true.

When Chuck drives and talks, he starts driving slower and slower.

One day we were coming from his house ( off of #9) in Adamsburg going to my house in Lockhart. He was telling me some story about something and just laughing and enjoying it, but his driving got slower and slower and I thought I could walk faster, so I told him that the sign that said # 9 was the highway not the speed limit.

Watch him, on #49 I’d make a bet that would also be his speed. I’m on him all the time about his driving and talking.

Most of the time I drive (now), he wants to play with all the buttons and switches in the car and it drives me nuts. And he thinks there is something wrong with the seat belt, no one else thinks it’s crooked, but him. Well, until I talk to him that’s the only tale I can tell, that I know about.

My daughter says that I drive to the music.

Sympathy

My sympathy goes out to Buddy Vanderford’s family. I’ll really miss going out to Ellen Sager and cutting his hair. He was a good man, and will be missed.

Sympathy to Paul Campbell’s family, also.

Birthday

Tiffany Austin will be 22 years old on Oct. 7. I hope she has a wonderful day.

Salvation Army

Salvation Army representatives will be at the Lockhart Town Hall, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, to find out if any of you need help for Christmas.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get some of the help that you need. A lot of you have been out of work a long time with all the plants around Union County closing down.

I hope we have a good turnout, then they might come back for other things.

Christmas Committee

Would anyone like to join our Christmas Committee? The more people, the more ideas there are to pass around. The next meeting will be Oct. 15 on Monday at the Lockhart Cafe.

I’ve been on the road for the last month and haven’t been able to go to the meetings but I’ve stayed in touch and commented by phone. The only ones showing up are Barry and Jeannie. Please come out to help them. I know you all enjoy the parade, but come and see how it progresses.

Don’t forget to make a great float. The judging will be at 1:30 at Lockhart Elementary School. The judges will be from out of town and doesn’t know anyone, so all is fair. The parade is on Dec. 2, the first Sunday, always. Vendors please give us a call. If you are being in the parade call also. Update On Bridge

SCDOT has selected Proposed Preferred Alternative 2 A as the alignment to proceed forward with to the public hearing stage of the project. A display of Alternative 2 A is available for viewing at the town hall. Due to the need for the additional investigation of the canal embankments, the public hearing is now anticipated to be held during the spring of 2013.

Lost Dog

If anyone in Lockhart is wondering where their friendly, lovable half cocker and something else, brown and white dog is, we seem to have it down here in the flat. It greets everyone when we come out of our houses, he doesn’t seem to know how to go home. I hope you get him before he gets hit by one of our fast speeders. This road seems to be a racetrack. And the speed limit is 25.

House For Rent

If you are looking for a place to rent, Mandy has finished cleaning up our six-room house behind town hall. We had it all rewired, and all new light fixtures in each room. Anyway, think about it.

Birthdays And Anniversaries

Joanne Walker’s birthday was Oct. 4, along with Abby Queen, and Adam Harris. Lynn and Jay Williams’ anniversary was the 6th, Christopher Porter is the 8th, and Jay Reardon and Danny Gault’s are the 9th. Dennis Farr, the 11th, Raina Smith on the 12th and Dennis Frost on the 14th.

Free Movie

Lockhart Methodist Church will be showing a movie at 6 p.m. on Monday night, Oct. 8. It’s free.
