The Union County Advanced Technology Center partnered with SC Works to host a job fair on Thursday, June 7, for job seekers to connect with employers which had positions to fill in the Union County area.

The fair featured representatives from numerous local employers with positions to fill, as well as representatives from Spartanburg Community College and USC Union who provided information to potential students, discussing programs, services and course offerings.

“The job fair was a huge success for both employers and potential employees,” said Union County Advanced Technology Center Director Kathy Jo Lancaster. “Our goal is to continue to work with local industries and SC Works to provide employment opportunities and training programs for residents.

Lancaster reported that 247 prospects attended with lots of initial interviews scheduled and at least 20 job offers made and accepted on the spot.

“I am interested to see the county’s employment/unemployment statistics in July to determine if this job fair made an impact,” Lancaster said.

Lancaster also mentioned that she has been pleased with feedback from employers attending the job fair, as they were complementary regarding the organization and flow of the event as a whole.

Beginning this fall, Union County Advanced Technology Center will refine the plan for a community technology service by expanding course offerings in welding, manufacturing, health sciences and other high tech/high growth fields.

“We are currently registering for fall classes which begin Aug. 15, and financial aid may be available for those who qualify,” Lancaster said.
