A Buffalo man and a Union man are facing weapons violations charges in two separate incidents with one accused of having a sawed-of shotgun in the back of his SUV and the other accused of having a 9mm pistol under a floor mat of his car.

Sunday Incident

Donald Manuel Thompson, 37, 197 Peakeville Road, Buffalo, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with driving with an unlawful alcohol concentration, driving under suspension second offense, and possession of a weapon and ammunition by a person convicted of a violent crime.

The incident report states deputies were dispatched to Thompson’s residence early Sunday morning in reference to a domestic disturbance. While en route, deputies were advised that a weapon was involved and someone heard what they thought were gunshots. When the arrived at the intersection of SC 215 and Peakeville Road, deputies observed a burgundy SUV leaving Peakeville Road heading toward West Springs on SC 215. A few moments later deputies were advised the suspect had left in a burgundy SUV.

Deputies caught up with the SUV and performed a traffic stop at the fire department substation on SC 215 at the intersection of Hully Bridge Road. After he stopped, the reports states the driver of the SUV immediately got out of the vehicle and started walking towards the deputies saying “Shoot me” and “I want you to shoot me.” When the driver of the SUV got closer, the deputies deployed a Taser which while not effective achieved the driver’s compliance in showing he did not have a weapon on him.

The driver was detained by deputies and identified as Thompson. Deputies told Thompson why he’d been stopped and then asked him the gun. The report states Thompson told deputies the weapon was a sawed-off shotgun which he said was loaded and in the back of the SUV. He said he took it from the house without firing it because he feared his girlfriend might use it against him.

Deputies noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Thompson who the report states said he’d been drinking beer. Thompson then refused an attempt by deputies to perform a field sobriety test. He was then placed under arrest and advised of his Miranda rights.

The report states deputies found the sawed-off shotgun in the rear of the SUV and unloaded three shotgun shells from the weapon. The weapon was seized as evidence. Thompson’s vehicle was towed and he was transported to jail where it was determined that his driver’s license was suspended. A Datamaster test administered on Thompson produced a reading of 0.11.

Monday Incident

Calvin Gerard Mills, 25, 201 Williams St., Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with unlawful transport of a handgun and by the SC Highway Patrol with driving under the influence.

The incident report states a deputy and a highway patrolman performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Furman Fendley Highway and West Springs Highway early Monday morning. The driver, identified as Mills, gave permission for his vehicle to be searched and during the course the search the report states the deputy found a black, 9mm Makarov pistol under the floor mat on the driver’s side. When asked by the deputy about the pistol, Mills said it belonged to him. The deputy then advised Mills it was unlawful for him to carry a pistol under his floor mat.

Mills was then given a ticket by the highway patrolman for driving under the influence and transported him to jail. He was subsequently charged with unlawful transport of a handgun.

Criminal Domestic Violence

A Union man ended up in jail after he allegedly hit a woman with his fist and a Gatorade bottle.

Andrew Hunter Adams, 28, 680 Browns Creek Road, Union, is charged by the sheriff’s office with criminal domestic violence.

The incident report states a deputy was dispatched early Monday morning to Adams’ residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. The victim said that Adams, who she said had left the house on foot before the deputy arrived, had hit her. She said Adams had awakened her and hit her with his fist and then threw a Gatorade bottle which struck her in the arm. The woman said Adams threw several other items at her and then pinned her down on the couch with a broken stick. She said he also broke her car’s windshield and punched hole in the wall of the house.

A K-9 Unit was dispatched to the scene because Adams had fled, but he was found at the edge of the woods near his home. He was placed under arrest and transported to jail. The broken stick was collected as evidence and the victim provided the deputy with a written statement and was issued a victim’s form. The report states the victim had a red mark on her wrist and a small cut on her hand. She also complained of pain in her head but refused medical treatment.
