JONESVILLE — A Jonesville man was killed and his wife and grandchildren sent to the hospital after their car collided with their house Friday night.
L/Cpl Billy Elder of the SC Highway Patrol reported late Friday night that the accident occurred at 7:59 p.m. on SC 18 near the intersection with SC 114 north of Jonesville. Elder said the 1991 Buick four-door was southbound on SC 18 when it went off the left side of the road and struck a house. He said the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was killed. There were four passengers in the car and Elder said one of them was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and the other three to the emergency room at Wallace Thomson Hospital for medical treatment.
Elder said the accident is still under investigation.
Union County Deputy Coroner John Fallaw said Saturday afternoon that the deceased was Danny Thomas Prather, 61, 1478 Gaffney Highway, Jonesville. Fallaw said the cause of Prather’s death was undetermined and that an autopsy was performed on his body Saturday morning. He said he was still waiting on the results of the autopsy.
Union County Sheriff David Taylor said Saturday afternoon that it was Prather’s house that his car ran into. Taylor said when the vehicle struck the building it caused the roof of the front porch to collapse. He said Prather’s wife, Sheila, and their three grandchildren were in the car at the time of the accident.
Taylor said that since she and her grandchildren were taken to either Spartanburg Regional or Wallace Thomson for treatment, Sheila Prather had been released from the hospital. He said he did not have any information on the condition of Prather’s grandchildren.
