The Christmas season offers many opportunities to make a difference in someone’s life. There is going to be many children around Union County that will wake up on Christmas morning without anything under a tree or even worse, they will have no one there to hug and love them. The sad reality is we are witnessing a growing generation of irresponsible and immature parents who is only concerned with themselves. This gives you and I a wonderful privilege to affect the life of a child as well as the parent.
We as Christians must show the love of God in our lives to those who haven’t seen it yet. The way we can show God’s love is to give them the same love that we received. This love was embodied in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It’s so fulfilling to see the joy in a child’s eyes as they open their gift, but we must then share with them the greatest gift ever given to the human race. This gift is God’s salvation to a lost world through His only begotten son Jesus Christ. This is the only gift that truly makes a difference in a person’s life.
I remember my first bicycle, basketball goal, pellet gun, and other toys that I received. Yet the gift that means the most, the one I have never and will never forget, the one that will never wear out, or that I’ll ever lose is the gift of God’s salvation. It is truly the gift that keeps giving. It gives me joy, comfort, peace, and it will give me an eternal home in glory!
In the small book of Jude, the Bible tells us to have compassion and make a difference. In a nation of people that’s focus is on taking, we have the opportunity to give the one and only thing that makes an eternal difference.
Some think that winning the lottery will make the difference. Others think the “right” person will make all the difference. Jesus Christ is the difference. His salvation makes the difference. We can make a difference in others’ lives by sharing Jesus with them.
My simple challenge to you is this. It is not at all about what you can receive but rather it is about giving.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,” (John 3:16).
This Christmas, do not worry about receiving but give the good news of Jesus seasoned with prayer and love.
