UNION COUNTY — It wouldn’t be Christmas without Christmas parades and two communities will hold their parades this weekend while two more are seeking entries for theirs.
The Buffalo community held its annual Christmas parade this past weekend, the first community in the county to do so. The City of Union Union and the towns of Jonesville, Carlisle and Lockhart will hold theirs beginning this weekend.
Jonesville
On Saturday, the Town of Jonesville will become the second community this year to hold its Christmas parade.
Mayor Ernest Moore said Thursday that the parade will begin at 2 p.m. at First National Bank on Pacolet Street. The parade will then proceed along Pacolet Street, cross the bridge and turn right onto Main Street, finishing at Church Street.
Donna Sanders, one of the parade’s organizers, said Friday that the parade lineup includes the Roughneck Motorcycle Club, the Shriners in their Hillbilly cars, and several church floats.
In addition to the parade, Sanders said Santa Claus will be at the Jonesville Municipal Complex at 1:15 p.m. to sit and visit with children. She said the Jonesville Elementary/Middle School Chorus will perform at 1:15 p.m. on Main Street across from the L&M Grocery Store.

Lockhart
The next Christmas parade will be Lockhart’s at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Lockart Christmas Parade Committee member Connie Porter said Thursday that parade participants should begin lining up on Lockhart Drive near Lockhart School between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. She all floats, however, should be in place by 1:30 p.m. when judging for the float contest begins. Plaques will be awarded for the Most Attractive, Original, and Theme.
Porter said that those organizations with floats should not have a Santa Claus on them as the committee has already secured one.
The parade will be followed by the Festival of Lights at First Baptist Church on Mill Street. Porter said the festival will include performances of Christmas carols, devotionals by area ministers, and an address by representatives of Jacob’s Well, the new Mission located in the old Hope Hospital.
During the parade, Porter said that Pacolet Milliken will bring cakes which will be given away for free at the Lockhart Community Park. She said all vendors must be in place by 1:30 p.m.

Carlisle
There will be more Christmas parades the following weekend beginning with Carlisle’s which will be held Saturday, Dec. 8.
Mayor Mary Ferguson-Glenn said Friday that lineup will be at 1 p.m. and the parade will begin at 2 p.m. She said the parade will travel along King-Kennedy Highway and then onto Fish Dam Avenue.
The parade will be followed by an open house at the Carlisle Town Hall. Refreshments will be served.
Ferguson-Glenn said the town is still in the process of assembling the parade lineup and that more participants are wanted.

Union
The Union Christmas parade, organized by the Union County Chamber of Commerce, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
Lineup will be at 2 p.m. in front of the Union County YMCA on Main Street and Torance Inman, chamber executive director, said the members of the Southside Fire Department will organize the lineup, making sure participants are where they are supposed to be.
As has been the case since the chamber began organizing the parade, the parade marshals will be this year’s recipients of the chamber’s Industry of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Service Group of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards.
The parade marshals for this year are:
• Lockhart Power (Industry of the Year)
• Old Timey Car Wash (Small Business of the Year)
• Union County Advanced Technology Center (Service Group of the Year)
• Charlie Gregory (Volunteer of the Year)
Prior to the start of the parade, there will be a contest for Best Float. Renee Alexander, chamber executive assistant, said that so far there are eight floats enter in the contest.
In addition to the floats, Alexander said the Show-N-Shine Car Club and Roughnecks Motorcycle Club will also take in the parade.
