JONESVILLE — Mrs. Gayle Petty Purkey, 69, wife of Ronald T. Purkey, 921 Gaffney Highway, Jonesville, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Gayle was born in Jonesville, S.C., Sept. 1, 1943, a daughter of the late Claude Petty and Katie Buice Petty. She was a graduate of Jonesville High School and retired from Roebuck Builders in Spartanburg after 25-plus years of service. Gayle was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 51 years are a sister, Ruby Edwards of Spartanburg; a brother, Boyce Martin of Pacolet; a special niece, Wanda Burgess of Columbus, NC; a special nephew, Dan Harvey of Spartanburg and several other nieces and nephews.
Gayle was predeceased by a son, Todd Purkey; a sister, Thelma Harvey; and four brothers, Henry Martin, James W. Martin, C.L. Martin and Charles Martin.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown and Mr. Donald Gibson.
Employees and former employees of Roebuck Builders are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbeares.
Visitation will be held at the graveside immediately following the service.
