The Fair Forest, NSDAR, met Oct. 2 in the Union County Museum meeting room.

Regent Margaret McCarley called the meeting to order. Melba Russell read the Devotional based on Matthew 11:30 from Meditation Moments by Millie Stamm. Chairman Amy Bruce led the chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S., The American’s Creed, the Salute to the Flag of South Carolina, and the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner.

Chairman Martha Whitener read the President General’s Message, “Votes.” Acting Treasurer Maudine Hickman read the Treasurer’s Report and the National Defense Report, “The 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis.” Secretary Mrs. Bruce read the minutes of the previous meeting.

Ruth Jean Kincheloe introduced author Sheila Ingle who presented the program on her book, “Courageous Kate, A Daughter of the American Revolution.” Kate Moore Barry, one the Scot-Irish settlers who lived in the wilderness of South Carolina Upcountry in the 1700s, was a heroine and young mother who rode from her back country home to warn Patriot militias of enemies. She served as a scout and a spy and is credited with helping Gen. Daniel Morgan defeat the British at the Battle of Cowpens.

The next meeting will be Nov. 6 in the Union County Museum meeting room with speaker Peter Trigianni who will present the program, “Restoring the Dawkins House and the Military History of Union County.”
