An elderly Union man is accused of trying to pay a child to commit a sex act.
Harold Glenn Montgomery, 69, of 774 Philippi Church Road was charged Wednesday by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with solicitation of a minor. Montgomery was released from the Union County Jail Wednesday evening on $5,000 surety bond.
The alleged incident occurred Saturday in the parking lot of the Hot Spot in Lockhart. The mother of a 12-year-old boy told Deputy Thom McAbee she went in the store and left her son and two of his friends in the vehicle. The boy was in the front passenger seat and the other two were on the back seat. She said when she came out, the boy said a man — later identified as Montgomery — asked him if he was interested in earning some money. He asked how and Montgomery told him he would give him $20 if the boy would let him commit a sex act on him.
The woman said she confronted Montgomery and he asked her if she wanted to earn $20. She said she became irate and began to yell at Montgomery, who told her his name was John Harvey. She said Montgomery left when others came around to see what was going on. She wrote down the license plate of his truck.
The boy said Montgomery made no physical contact with him.

Arrest warrants signed by Investigator Mickey Parker said Sims sold marijuana to confidential informant on Lakeside Drive on June 30. The sale occurred near Union County High School

He thought the only thing stolen was a sterling silver necklace with a heart pendant worth $30. Damage was estimated at $55.
