The Union Public Safety Department reported the following arrests:

— Naquawn Tyrik Rice, 21, of 209 Lawson Ave., Union, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to the incident report, officers responded to Lawson Avenue around 11:20 a.m. Jan. 28 to a report of shots fired, and while there, found broken glass and five shell casings in the road. According to arrest warrants, Rice discharged a firearm at someone, striking the person’s vehicle as the person fled the scene. Rice was transported to Union County Jail. An investigation of the case continues.

— Marcus Mantel Hughes, 30, of 902 Lakeside Drive, Union, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, driving under suspension, open container and drug paraphernalia. According to the incident report, an officer noticed a vehicle sitting half way in the roadway on Gage Avenue in Union around 11:22 p.m. Jan. 28. The officer spoke with Hughes and spotted two open containers in his floorboard and asked him to step out of the car. When the officer patted Hughes down, he found eight small bags of marijuana. Hughes was taken to Union County Jail.

— Robert Alonzo Whethers, 45, of 109 Balsum St., Union, was charged Jan. 28 with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

The Union Public Safety Department reported the following incidents:

— A resident of Lakeside Drive in Union reported Jan. 27 that he and another man were robbed at gun point in the parking lot of the basketball court at Union City Park. The victim said the man was a black male wearing a black shirt with a tan patch and jeans. The victim also said the man approached him on the passenger side of the vehicle, put a small silver handgun to his head and took $12 the victim had on him. The victim said the man hit him in the face with the pistol. The case was turned over to investigations.

— A resident of Highland Drive in Union reported Jan. 28 that a pneumatic roofing nailer was stolen from the tool box on his work truck between Jan. 26-28. The case is under investigation.

— A resident of Gadberry Street in Union reported Jan. 27 that someone had vandalized her car by trying to open the trunk, damaging the lock and removing the Chevrolet trunk emblem off the rear of the trunk lid. The case was turned over to investigations.

— A resident of Monroe Street in Union reported that his car was vandalized while parked on Porter Street. The car was scratched from the right front door down the right side and across the trunk. The case is under investigation.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

— Officers responded Jan. 28 to a call on Lovers Lane Road in Union in reference to a possible discarded methamphetamine lab. A plastic 20-ounce bottle containing a white, chalky substance was located in a field within throwing distance of the highway. The bottle was secured and removed for proper disposal.

— An employee of the City of Union Utilities Department reported a missing power meter and box cover from an abandoned residence on Kelly Road in Union on Jan. 28. The estimated value of the meter and box is $200. Photos were taken as evidence.

— A resident of West Springs Highway in Jonesville reported Jan. 28 that someone had damaged his property by doing “doughnuts” and “figure eights” with a vehicle in his field, causing damage. The value of the damage is estimated to be $500. Photos were taken and the case was turned over to investigations.
