UNION – A Union County football standout was charged with third degree assault and battery on Monday.

Christian DeAngelo Booker, 18, of 104 Lakewood Drive, was arrested by the City of Union Department of Public Safety after officers responded to an incident at Union County High School. According to the arrest warrant, Booker struck a female in the face and body with his hands while inside a car at Union County High School.

Officers were dispatched at 7:56 a.m. to an assault inside a vehicle at the UCHS driveway and then on Lakeside Drive, according to the report. Officers were advised that a gold Honda had traveled down Lakeside Drive and turned into the parking lot of Lakeside Baptist Church. They were unable to locate the vehicle and began the investigation.

Officers spoke with the caller who reported the incident and the caller said she dropped a student off at school around 7:50 a.m. As she left the parking lot, she witnessed a female attempt to get out of the gold Honda. The caller stated the driver accelerated when the female put her feet on the ground. She also stated that as the car traveled down Lakeside Drive toward Foster Park, she saw the passenger side door open three to four more times. The caller said she saw “arms crossing paths” from the driver’s side to the passenger’s side, and she called 9-1-1 in fear of the female’s safety.

When police spoke with the victim, she told them she had a phone conversation with Booker the previous night in which Booker threatened to beat her up if she talked to any boy and kill her if she talked to a particular boy. The victim also stated that during the incident on Monday, Booker noticed that someone had seen them and was following them, and he told the victim to calm down and stop crying because someone had called the police. The victim stated that Booker then told her he would never hit her again and they just needed to leave each other alone.

The arrest warrant was signed following the police investigation.

Booker played football at UCHS this past year, and was the only UCHS player invited to play in the North-South All Star Football Game on Dec. 12 in Myrtle Beach. However, Booker was taken off the team a couple of days before the game was to be played for disciplinary reasons.
