Reading with the Jackets

Union County High School students Jordan Spencer, Brittany Moore, and Shannon Lanier participate in Reading with the Jackets program at Buffalo Elementary School. Jordan, a football player, remembers listening to Jackets read when he was an elementary student at BES. Pictured with the Jackets are students from Mrs. Stacie Austin's first grade class. Students can participate in Reading with the Jackets by purchasing a ticket with Buffalo Bucks. Buffalo Bucks are issued to students who are caught being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn.

THE UNION COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY HEADQUATERS, 103 East Main St., will be open on Election Day, Nov. 6 to assist with get out the vote calls, rides to the polls, voter information, questions, and election night results. THE CARLISLE FINISHING RETIREMENT GROUP will meet at 9 a.m. for breakfast at Midway. The Rev. Aubrey “Rocky” Parks will be the guest speaker. All retirees and former employees are invited. For more information call 466-5276.

THE UNION COUNTY FIRST STEPS PARTNERSHIP BOARD will hold its regular meeting 5:30 p.m. at the Union Schools District Office Annex located at 120 Lakeside Drive, Union. The public is invited to attend. Anyone wanting to attend who requires special assistance due to a disability is encouraged to contact Ms. Beth Fowler, executive director, at 864-427-1748, ext. 308, prior to the start of the meeting.

THE MASTER GARDENERS will meet at 6 p.m. at the Clemson Extension Office. The awards for the Flower Show will be given at that time. Everyone please bring a covered dish.

PAINTING WITH COFFEE continues from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday at the Union County Arts Council’s Gallery on Main Street in Union. A VETERANS ADVOCATE is in Union every third Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the SCWorks Union office, 103 W. Main St., Union, to discuss eligibility for health care, pension, disability and more.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.

UNION COUNTY ACTION NETWORK ORGANIZATION (WATCHDOG GROUP) meets weekly on Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 103 Main St., Union. The public is invited.
