Safety Patrol members

The Monarch Elementary 5th Grade Safety Patrol members are early to school, are respectful and are courteous and diligent in their school job responsibilities. The students who are opening and closing car doors, assisting students each school morning and telling all to “Have a nice day!” are Abby Baldwin, Holden Cooke, Desmond Epps, Jamie Inman, Mikala Lipsey, Jake McGee, Connor Mitchell, and Ethan Sumner.

THE TORRINGTON/TIMKEN RETIREES will meet at 6 p.m. at Blue Ocean in Clinton.

SIMS MIDDLE SCHOOL will hold a Technology Night for Parents at 6 p.m. in the library. The focus of the program will be Ipads and their educational uses. The first 30 participants will be able to use school Ipads during the session. Parents attending this session may also bring their own Ipads. CROSS KEYS PRECINCT will hold a precinct meeting at 7 p.m. at the Cross Keys Fire Department to update voters on the voting procedures for the November general election. There will be a video presentation on how to vote using the voting machines. All candidates are invited.

OCTOBER 13

THE MARCH OF DIMES MARCH FOR BABIES will be held at 9 a.m. at Veterans Park. In addition to the walk, there will be a DJ, food, a kids’ bounce house and more. All proceeds support research and grants awarded to programs that improve infant and maternal health in South Carolina.

OCTOBER 14

DESCENDANTS OF GEORGE THOMAS HYATT, AMANDA MAYES, AND JANIE SCOTT HYATT will hold their annual family reunion at 12:30 p.m. at Bogansville United Methodist Church. Please bring a covered dish lunch and drinks. Bogansville worship service begins at 11 a.m. You are invited to attend.

THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES MONROE LAWSON AND MYRA ELLEN SMITH LAWSON will have their annual Reunion at Foster’s Chapel UM Church. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Plates, cups, napkins and ice will be furnished. Bring a well filled picnic basket.

THE UNION COUNTY ARTS CONCIL’S MONDAY NIGHT MUSIC will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at UCAC on Main Street in Union. All musicians playing any type of music and audience members are welcome. For more information contact UCAC at 864-429-2817 or ucac@bellsouth.net.

THE UNION COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL’S TUESDAY NIGHT ARTISTS’ GROUP will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at UCAC on Main Street in Union. All artists are invited to come by and work on their art projects along with other artists. For more information contact UCAC at 864-429-2817 or ucac@bellsouth.net.

THE CLASS OF 1949 OF UNION HIGH SCHOOL has scheduled a Reunion at Andy’s in Buffalo from 11:30 a.m. to until. If you have not turned your name as attending, please call Jane Owenby at 427-3238 to do so right away. There is a deadline.

OCTOBER 19

THE UNION COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1977 will hold its 15-year high school reunion Oct. 19 and 20. Classmates will meet at the football game on Oct. 19 and at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20 at the complex for a softball game and then hold the reunion from 6 p.m.-until at the Shriners Building on S.C. 49. THE BPO DOES UNION DROVE #148 will have their annual Chinese Auction at Union Elks Lodge. Doors open at 6 p.m. and drawing for prizes will begin promptly at 7 p.m. All proceeds goes to DOES projects.

THE UNION HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1987’s 25th CLASS REUNION will be held Oct. 26 and 27. USC UNION will host a National Chemistry Week event from 9 a.m. to noon at Truluck Gym. Public, private and home schooled elementary students are invited for the free event featuring chemistry magic tricks, take-home projects, fun hands-on activities, temporary tattoos, balloons and more.

PHILIPPI FIRE DEPARTMENT will host a Truck-or-Treat from 6 p.m.-until on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31. A kids’ costume contest will be held both nights.

THE UNION COUNTY HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION is hosting its annual Biggest Buck Competition. A cash prize and trophy will be awarded to the winner. In season registration is Sept. 1-Nov.30. Contact Catherine M. Childers at 301-2466 for more information.

A VETERANS ADVOCATE is in Union every third Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the SCWorks Union office, 103 W. Main St., Union, to discuss eligibility for health care, pension, disability and more.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.

UNION COUNTY ACTION NETWORK ORGANIZATION (WATCHDOG GROUP) meets weekly on Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 103 Main St., Union. The public is invited.
