Selection illustrators

Budding authors and artists were spotlighted Tuesday, April 24, when Union County Schools held its 10th annual District Anthology Celebration at Sims Middle School. Students from across the county were recognized for their outstanding writing and/or art work. The selection illustrators recognized included Jerel Dawkins, Devonte Thompson, Chase Fowler, Abby Gregory, Anna Caroline Alexander, Nathan Harris, Samantha Walker, Mackenzie Murphy, Iriana Foster, Will Balkum, Stacy Lee, Carson Hickson, Jamie Inman, Halen Lawing, Raina Smith, Brittany Fullbright, Jordan Morris, Lauren Brewington, Zack Fowler, Jada Bagwell, Derrik Martinez, Reagan Chapman, Bradley Scott, Jasmine Navarro, Grant Berry, John Bogan, Michelle Austin, Shayna Williford, Victoria Lee, Bryant Henderson, Christopher Howell, Madison Gardin, LeJuan Lee, Deonica Thomas, Anna Johnson, Devin Gilkison, Steven Ward, Cody Horne, Kinsley Dawkins, Braylin Brown, Dylan Fallow, Katie Melton, Marcus Jeter, Kaitlyn Koepke, Doyle Wheatley, Hope Schreiber, Kayson Bates, Cole Smith, and Alexa Robbins.

This year’s District Anthology is entitled Plant The Seed of Creativity and Watch Your Imagination Grow! This publication is a collection of student writing and art work from every school in the district. Student pieces were submitted by teachers in grades kindergarten through 12. A panel of judges was convened at each school to choose pieces to be included in the publication. Each student recognized at the celebration received a complimentary copy of the District Anthology. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the anthology can contact Anne L. Rampey at Buffalo Elementary School at 429-1730, Ext. 26. The cost is $5.

JUNE 9

HORSE SHOE MUSIC HALL, 111 Harris St., Union, will welcome the Living Waters Gospel Band from Pacolet. The band will perform at 7 p.m. There is no admission. Everyone is welcome. Come and enjoy Southern Gospel Music.

JUNE 10

THE GREER FAMILY REUNION for descendants of C. Lester and Martha V. Greer will be held in the Sardis United Methodist Church Social Hall with lunch at 1 pm. Each family is asked to bring a well-filled basket. Plates, cups and utensils will be furnished.

JUNE 11

THE COMMISSIONERS OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF UNION will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Porter Street.

THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 22 in Union will have its regular monthly meeting in the Legion Hut at 120 Scenic Drive in Foster Park. Starting at 6 p.m. a meal will be served with voluntary contributions towards the cost much appreciated. At 7 p.m. the business portion of the meeting will take place to include the installation of officers for the 2012-2013 year. Members are encouraged to attend and participate, and veterans interested in becoming members are also always welcome. There will be no summer meeting for the month of July.

THE WRITER’S CLUB sponsored by the Union County Arts Council (UCAC) will meet at the UCAC on Main Street in Union from 6-8 p.m. All local writers are encouraged top attend. Call 864-429-2817 for information.

LOCKHART TOWN COUNCIL will hold first reading of the 2012-2013 municipal budget at 7 p.m. at the Lockhart Town Hall.

“A UNION HERITAGE; THREE GENERATIONS OF UNION ARTISTS” reception will be held at the Union County Arts Council on Main Street in Union from 6-8 p.m. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Call 864-429-2817 for more information.

SIMS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1968 is sponsoring a sightseeing trip to Charleston, departing from the old Wal-Mart parking lot. For information call Betsy at 864-674-6799.

UNION HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1992 will host their 20th reunion June 22-24. Final registration deadline will be May 26 at Quality Inn, Duncan Bypass. You must register and pay in full to attend the reunion.

It will run faily through July 27 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The camp will be led by Angie Craft and will introduce the campers to the art of gourding (making objects of art from the common gourd).
