Laurens County Speedway came to life for one final time in 2009 with the last race of the season taking place this past Saturday night.

Billy Rushton entered the night as the man to beat in the Coca-Cola Super Late Model Division with 7 feature wins leading the points. Second place man Frank Coates had a slim chance but needed a lot things to fall his way in order for him to win.

Heat race winners Billy Rushton and Tony Quarles started on the front row.  Chris Lyons and Frank Coates made up row 2.  Row 3 had Mike Measamer and Dean Bragg.  On the 1st start Billy Rushton took a blow as his lost control of his car off of turn 4 and spun causing him to start in the rear.

Chris Lyons started from pole but could not keep the fast Tony Quarles from taking the lead on the outside with Frank Coates also getting by.

Tony Quarles led from Frank Coates, Chris Lyons, Mike Measamer, Dean Bragg, and Billy Rushton. Tony Quarles pulled out a couple of car lengths but lost is and spun in turns 1 and 2 on lap 4.  Frank Coates took the lead and pulled out a small lead over Chris Lyons.

Billy Rushton battled Mike Measamer hard for several laps before finally passing him in turns 3 and 4 on lap 14. Chris Lyons began to pull on Frank Coates but never could get close enough to apply pressure, while Billy Rushton pulled right up on the back bumper of Lyons.

Coates (Hodges) would finish the season strong by taking his 4th feature win of the season.  Chris Lyons (Laurens) finished 2nd, Billy Rushton (Greenwood) 3rd, Mike Measamer (Clinton) 4th, Tony Quarles (Greenwood) 5th.

William Morgan entered the night having completely dominating the Limited Late Model Division in 09 being able to miss a couple of races and still had a commanding lead in points.  Morgan took the 1st heat win and lined up on pole.  The 2nd heat was won by Ernest Stiefle who lined up 2nd.

Row 2 had Keith Kellet and Brad Rachels. Mac Owens and Dale Timms made up row 3. On the start William Morgan took the lead with Ernest Stiefle in 2nd. In turns 3 and 4 Stiefle would spin collecting everyone else with the exception of Brad Rachels.

On the second start William Morgan was able to take the lead once again with Brad Rachels chasing right behind him. The top 2 broke away Ernest Stiefle, Keith Kellet, and Mac Owens following.

Brad Rachels would apply pressure on Morgan but his night would end early on lap 5 with mechanical problems.

Morgan continued to lead while Mac Owens got by Keith Kellet for 3rd and challenged Stiefle for 2nd.  Mac’s night would also hit a bump as mechanical trouble caused him to retire.

Up Front William Morgan (Fountain Inn) had no trouble as he captured his 13th Limited Late Model Feature win and to the Championship in dominating fashion.  Ernest Stiefle finished 2nd, Dale Timms (Hodges) 3rd, Keith Kellet 4th.
