The Union County Dixie Boys wrapped up regular season play on Friday night with Civitan being crowned City Champions after a come from behind win over WDD, 9-8.
In a contest that saw WDD jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, Civitan fought back to tie things up, 8-8, in the bottom of the seventh. The Civitan comeback included a four run seventh inning during which AJ Hunter, Princeton Hunter and JD Cheek touched up WDD pitching staff for hits while Tyler Barber and Quon Brannon were issued walks, sending the game to extra innings.
WDD pitchers combined to walk four straight batters in the eighth, forcing in the winning run.
Leading the way at the plate for Civitan was Hunter and Dexlie Inman who had two hits each.
JT Cheek, JD Cheek, Quon Brannon, Princton Hunter and Hunter Bailey added base hits. Barber walked three times and Christian Petty had a walk.
Civitan had four pitchers in JD Cheek, Brannon, Barber and Caleb Goodwin to combine and pitch for the win that finished the season with a 10-3 record.
On Thursday night Civitan engaged in a back and forth contest with Police Club and emerged with a 9-7 win.
Hunter Bailey, whom Civitan has often called on, pitched six strong innings to earn the win. Brannon and JD Cheek came on in relief to close the door on Police Club.
AJ Hunter led at the plate with three big hits to go along with two RBIs. JD Cheek added two hits with an RBI.
Inman and Barber added base hits along with key sacrifice bunts to put runners in scoring positions at pivotal points in the game. JT Cheek contributed a hit and an RBI while Brannon, Jaden Bates and Bailey each added a hit apiece.
