The City of Union Planning Department collected more than $5,700 in fees on 171 permits and business licenses issued for commercial and residential repairs and new businesses in May

It its report to Union City Council for the month May, the department reported issuing 147 permits and collecting $4,172.50 in fees on projects with a combined value of $727,135. These included:

• Eleven building permits for $490 on $85,459 worth of commercial repairs.

• Two building permits for $100 on $12,600 worth of demolitions.

• One hundred and eighteen building permits for $3,262.50 on $580,424 worth of residential repairs.

• One building permit for $55 on $11,000 worth of signage.

• Two electrical permits for $30 on a $600 worth of residential repairs and one permit for a commercial repair project for which no fee was charged.

• Two heating/air conditioning permits for $115 on $17,795 worth of new commercial installations.

• Three heating/air conditioning permits for $90 on $13,257 worth of new residential installations.

• Three commercial occupancy permits.

• Two residential occupancy permits.

• One plumbing permit for $15 on a $3,500 commercial repair project.

• One plumbing permit for $15 on a $2,500 residential repair project.

The department also conducted two plan reviews as well as four building inspections, six electrical inspections, one plumbing inspection, and one heating/air conditioning inspection.

In addition, the department conducted all regular building, mechanical, electrical, gas and plumbing inspections. The department also took pictures of nuisances, posted properties, patrolled the city every day for business license and code violations, and picked up illegal signs posted within the city’s municipal limits.

Business Licenses

The department also issued 24 business licenses in May, collecting $1,604.90 in fees.

Other Projects

The department also reports that new residential construction at 110 Heritage Way has been completed. The demolition process was underway at 117 W. Main St., 118 Hillside Drive, and 102 Ravenscroft St. The West Main and Hillside Drive demolitions were being done by the owners of the properties while bids were being taken by the city for the demolition and removal of the Ravenscroft Street structure.

Letters

The department issued 62 nuisance and code violation letters for overgrown grass, abandoned vehicles, signs and condemned structures.
