Raising A Reader winners

4K students at Foster Park Elementary School are excited to receive their Raising A Reader Book Bags. These students are Layla Fleming, Tycen Ward, Amariyah Peake, and Alyjah Stewart. They attend Mrs. Margie Boyd and Mrs Michelle Alexander's morning class. Raising A Reader is a take home book bag program that encourages families to celebrate reading together and establish a love of reading. Raising A Reader is provided by Save The Children.

A WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP with J. Ashley Kirby will be held at the Union County Arts Council’s gallery on Main Street in Union from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 21 and Sept. 22. The gallery will be closed for regular business both days.

THE JONESVILLE TOWN FESTIVAL will be held from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Main Street in the Town of Jonesville. There will be a car and bike show; musical performances throughout the day; a petting zoo, pony rides and games for the children; clowns and face painting; and food and other vendors. THE FAIRFOREST CHAPTER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION and THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. at the John Palmer Cemetery. The cemetery is on Ashley Acres Road off S.C. 18.

THE UNION LIONS CLUB will host a Candy Days Donation Drive. Lions will be giving away candy for donations at the Union County Stadium from 5:30 p.m. until game time, prior to the Union County High School Yellow Jackets football game against Broome. Funds raised during the annual donation drive directly support state and local programs that assist the underprivilevged with eyeglasses and hearing aids. These donations also fund a Mobile Health Screening Unit, eye surgeries, and camps for blind youth. For more information, please call 426-8871.
