Burglaries, break-ins keeping Union County Sheriff’s Office busy

Burglaries and break-ins that netted the thieves more than $6,000 in money, jewelry and other valuables, including guns, are being investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

One incident involved the break-in of a vehicle parked at 1826 Tuckertown Road in Carlisle. The owner told deputies sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, someone cut a hole in in the passenger side back plastic window of his 2001 Jeep Wrangler causing $600 worth of damage. They then stole the following items from the vehicle:

• Remington 700/125 rifle with a stainless steel barrel and action and a Millet 6X25X56 scope ($1,750)

• Ventaro GPS System ($250)

• Cammo gloves ($15)

• Orange Winchester hat with a led light clipped to the visor ($50)

• Winchester cammo jacket ($25)

• Green Allen soft rifle case ($70)

• .308 ammo in the pouch of thecase ($30)

Burglary

Deputies are also investigating the Wednesday burglary of a residence at 321 Fire Lane in Buffalo.

A neighbor told deputies she heard a loud noise shortly after noon, looked out of her house and saw a white male wearing a gray-hooded shirt throwing a rock at the residence. She said she then saw another white male, this one wearing a white-hooded shirt come out of the back door, closing it behind him. She called 911 but was unable to see which direction the two went.

Deputies found the back door to the residence had been kicked open and noted minor damage to the door frame. The owners were notified and told deputies the following items were stolen:

• Jar of money ($150)

• Yellow Topaz ring ($300)

• Purple Amethyst ring ($300)

• Silver dollar collection ($50)

Damage to the door frame was estimated at $25.

Cable tap damaged

Two homes on Morning Glory Drive in Union experienced a disruption in their Charter service when someone broke their cable tap and damaged the cable lines. Deputies were called to the scene by a Charter employee who said estimated the damage at $250. The vandalism is believed to have occurred sometime between 11 a.m. Tuesday and and 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Jewelry stolen

Deputies are also investigating a burglary at a residence at 3256 River Road in Union where jewelry was the thieves main target.

The victim told deputies that sometime between 3 p.m. Monday and just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, someone kicked in his front door. Entering the house, he said he found that kitchen cabinets, dresser drawers and closets had been rumaged through and left open. He said the following items were missing:

• A blue, non-functioning High Stand .22 caliber revolver with a white “bone” handle ($50)

• Crystal cup ($50) which contained the following items:

• Gold, seven diamond cluster, eagle-shaped men’s ring ($300)

• Seven diamond cluster gold nugget men’s ring ($200)

• 21-inch gold chain with a “#1 Mom” pendant ($100)

• Gold fish (Bass) pendant ($100)

• Gold deer pendant ($100)

• Gold Cupid pendant ($100)

• Large men’s 20-inch gold link necklace ($500)

Damage to the door frame was estimated at $50.

TV stolen

The thief or thieves who broke into a residence at 906 Union Boulevard in Union made off with a TV set.

The incident occured sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and just before 5 p.m. Thursday. The victim told deputies he found his doorknob loose and when he went inside found someone had taken his 42-inch Vizio FHDTV ($800) and his X-Box 360 Video and one video game ($360).

Arrest

An X-Box was also at the heart of an incident that led to a Buffalo man being arrested on a charge of first-degree burglary.

Joshua Ray Stephens,128 Dana Tera Lane, is charged by the sheriff’s office with taking an X-Box 360 from a residence at 103 Pine Street in Buffalo on Thursday afternoon. The arrest was made based on information provided by witnesses who said they saw Stephens coming out the front of the building with the X-Box. A witness told deputies Stephens broke out a window to get into the building.

Shortly after being notified of the incident deputies learned Stephens’ location and took him into custody.

The X-Box was valued at $600 and damage to the window at $200.
