JONESVILLE — A manhunt is underway for a masked gunman who robbed a local bank.

Police Chief Jimmy Wilkins said the incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. when a man wearing a "Scream" Halloween mask and carrying a gun entered the First Citizens Banks at 408 Pacolet St. Wilkins said only one teller and the manager were in the bank at the time and the suspect went to the teller's window and told her to "Put your money in the bag." The teller did as the suspect said, putting the money in what Wilkins said was a plastic Dollar General bag.

Wilkins said the suspect fled the scene in an early 1990s four-door silver or gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. He said the suspect headed north on S.C. 18 towards Gaffney.

The suspect is descrbed as thin black man, 20-30 years of age, approximately 6 ft. tall. In addition to the mask, the suspect was wearing a hooded "Oak Tree" cammo jacket, dark blue or gray pants, white tennis shoes and blue surgical gloves.

Wilkins said the suspect acquired the mask, gloves and bag from the Dollar General on Post Office Drive. He may have also acquired the gun there because Wilkins said investigators are not certain if the gun was real or not.

In addition to the Jonesville Police Department, the incident is being investigated by the Union County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and the Pacolet Police Department.

The amount of money the suspect took is unknown at this time. Law enforcement is concentrating its search for the suspect in the areas between Jonesville and Gaffney.
