JONESVILLE — Using an ATM card helped land a Spartanburg man behind bars charged with robbing a local bank.

David Lee Glenn, 34, 400 Shady Acres Road, Spartanburg, is charged by the Jonesville Police Department with armed robbery. Glenn was taken into custody at the Nestle’s plant in Gaffney by a deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Office around 8 p.m. Friday. He is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail.

Glenn is charged with the Friday morning robbery of the First Citizens Bank at 408 Pacolet St., Jonesville. The robber, who wore a “Scream” Halloween mask and surgical gloves, was described as a thin black man, 20-30 years of age, approximately 6 ft. tall. In addition to the mask, the suspect was wearing a baseball cap, a hooded "Oak Tree" cammo jacket, dark blue or gray pants and white tennis shoes.

Jonesville Police Chief Jimmy Wilkins said Glenn matched the physical description given the bank teller and the bank’s manager. Wilkins said Glenn was not wearing the jacket or the cap at the time of his arrest. He said it is believed he disposed of them along with the mask and gloves, none of which have been recovered.

Wilkins said Glenn was identified from photos taken by a surveillance camera at Provident Community Bank. He said Glenn used an ATM card to withdraw funds from there which he used to purchase the mask and surgical gloves at the Dollar General store on Post Office Drive that he wore when robbing First Citizens. Glenn used a Dollar General bag to carry the money he took from the bank.

Only one teller and the manager were in the bank when the gunman, went to the teller's window and told her to "Put your money in the bag." The gunman then fled the scene heading north on S.C. 18 toward Gaffney in what was described as an early 1990s four-door silver or gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. Wilkins said Glenn’s car matches decription of the gunman’s vehicle.

The money Glenn is charged with taking has not been recovered. The gun used has not been recoverd either.

In addition to the Jonesville Police Department, the incident was investigated by the Union County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and the Pacolet Police Department. Wilkins thanked all the agencies for the assistance they rendered his department in the investigation.
