Hook-A-Kid On Golf
Speaking of Wolverine Stadium, and Golf Alley, The Whitmire Golf Course was filled with youth and parents Saturday morning, Aug. 18. The Annual “Hook-A- Kid On Golf” Program held its finale mini-tournament. Parents and grandparents enjoyed a ride through the pines and fairways with their child. Instructor Tommy Suber gave each child one on one instructions on the greens and fairways, as mom and dad looked on with cell phones and cameras ready for the perfect action shot. This year’s program had the largest turnout so far — 13 participants. Each young golfer received t-shirts, visors, tees, and for the first time players a beginners set of clubs, cased in a blue and gold bag. The six week program is designed to teach rules, etiquette and offer experiences about a sport that can be expensive.
Instructor Tommy Suber said “I want to thank all of our kids, we had a great group, and a lot of fun.” He added, “I really want to thank the parents for participating with us, coming out to see their child’s progress in the mini-tourney.”
Mayor Tim Carroll was on hand to give out the trophies. Carroll stated, “I thank the kids for coming out to learn, and the parents for supporting their child in the program.”
The youth golfers included Logan Putnam, Marcus Brogle, Jay Dunaway, Cameron Sheffield, Lomas Tyrek Davis, Joseph “Little Joe” Dillard, Dakota Bodie, Mikhail Moss-Jenkins, Tammie Worthy, Tiffany Taylor, Hunter Alexander, Andrew Johnson, and Chase English.
This event is sponsored by The Whitmire Recreation Department and co-hosted by the Whitmire Golf Association.
