The Union County Dixie Boys All Stars are campaigning for a state championship with a record of 2-0.
On Saturday, the All Stars arrived at Freedom Florence Park and took a 5-1 win over a solid Edgefield team.
“They’re one of the strongest teams here,” said Coach Scott Kendrick. “We just played a better ballgame. Our fielding was good, our pitching was strong and we had some big hits.”
Quay Morman picked up the win from the mound, tossing four innings before being relieved by Bryan Good. Leading hitters were T.K Jeter, Matthew Caldwell and Da Da Scott.
The All Stars picked up their second win on Sunday with a 4-0 shutout over Aynor. L.J Thompson tossed a complete six inning game with seven strikeouts while giving up just two hits.
“LJ was on the money,” said Kendrick. “We also ran the bases well and capitalized on their mistakes. We were just really rolling on Sunday.”
Kershaw and Morman led at the plate with two hits each. Jeter, Terrance Briggs and Cameron Stevens also added hits.
Jeter represented Union County in the State Tournament Homerun Derby contest and won, hitting 5-10 pitches out of the park.
