Upcoming Events
The Ladies of Bethesda Baptist Church are planning their “Ladies Night Out” Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $10. Special guest speaker is Beverly Summers, a ventriloquist. The ticket fee covers the meal, which will be catered by Mid-Way Barbeque. Joyce Dallas is the contact person at 803-694-2775.
Be sure to check the Tyger Enoree Coalition website at www.tygerenoree.org . The local group with Tera have fundraiser activities planned. Also, paddlers and campers can find useful information on the rivers, and group activities. Jon Durham is the local contact person at riverkeeper@jonduram.net.
A Special Weekend
The Whitmire Jaycees recently had a nice weekend at Jaycee Camp Hope Weekend near Clemson. The Whitmire Jaycees went to Saturday meetings with the State Chapter members and officers. Then for Sunday, the group packed a picnic lunch and joined the other Jaycees for a Sunday afternoon picnic with special residents of the area. The Whitmire group included Jason Mack, Christianna Gilliam, Darlene Styles, Amy Silvers and Sue Hollingsworth.
Local Recreational Opportunities
Looking for something to do on your “Stay-Cation?” Try the Whitmire Area’s outdoor recreational facilities. Molly’s Rock always attracted the picnic set, and the campers.
We have the Palmetto Trail, nice walk through parts of Newberry and Union Counties. It’s near what older Whitmirians call the old Long Lane School Road, The Brick House Hunt Camp and Buncombe Horse Trail on Highway 66, past the school, and snap to locate easy to locate off I-26.
The Little North Carolina Road on 72 is a nice travel through mountainous hills and a swoosh through a ford with paved road bed . One point of entry is in Newberry County, and other entry is Laurens County. Or contact Jon Durham with Tyger-Enoree Coalition to see when the next river float will be.
A Stay-Cation not only saves gas money, but will enhance your knowledge of treasures in your own back yard.
Allrighty readers, The Deadline Fairy — “GaraBund” — is tapping my shoulders impatiently, we are going to wrap this up for now. We depend on You for new, send us your news and photos to : news2cassie@yahoo.com
