JONESVILLE — On Saturday, members of the Women’s Bible Study Class at Oakbrook Community Church in Jonesville continued a food ministry they started last fall.
Last fall, the Women’s Bible Study Class began serving soup to the needy of the community as part of a Bible study called “40 Days In the Word.”
“We are doing a Bible study at our church called ‘40 Days In The Word,’” class leader Deborah Henderson said in an interview last October. “In one part of it we are encouraged to do a group project. It is from a Bible verse, Micah 6:8, ‘He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.’ We were just thinking of ways we could do those, love people and walk humbly with our God. We came up with feeding them.”
Henderson said more than 60 people were served on Saturday through dine-in, carry-out and delivered plates which included spaghetti, salad and desserts prepared by church members at their homes. Church members then brought the food to the church, where they assembled plates and boxed them for delivery.
“The most important thing is that we show God’s love to people,” Henderson said. “That’s what we’re trying to do.”
The group plans to make “Micah Meals” a monthly event, and Henderson said Monday afternoon that the date would be set at Monday night’s Bible study.
“We are shooting for the last Saturday in February,” she said. “We hope that people will get the word out to others who may need help — and to have a meal. We want this thing to grow.”
